The Crowd-Big Fish Stories

Here by request is The Crowd's Big Fish Stories that was released on Flipside Records. This sucker has been out of print for ever. The files were given to me and I cannot remember who gave them to me. If you object to me sharing this, please drop me a line and this will be taken down. Shame that they have not reissued this, though to be honest it really is not that good. Not as manic as the Beach Blvd. tracks or as well written as their A World Apart. But it deserves to be heard and have you judge. If any of you are interested, they have released a couple of great cds over the last 10 years that are definately worth seeking out.

  1. Ken, Can't thank you enough for posting this after my request - been trying to locate it for many years., only Crowd release I don't have , and i don't just mean digitally... Just giving it a debut play & on first listen I think I might agree with your verdict! But I wouldn't know this without you being cool enough to post it so thanks again... Haven't written it off yet tho', but a bit patchy for sure...

    Sorry no Rudi!

As for your Screaming Dead requirement, I used to be on friendly terms with the singer - grew up in the same town. Haven't seen him for years, but my cousin still lives there & occasionally meets up with him for a beer, so I will get your request in circulation! Their (best) song "She Was Done In By A Nutter" is a stalwart on my car player... Cheers from London!!

  2. P.S.

Yeah... you were 100% correct about Big Fish Stories!! A 100% clunker. Thank Chr*st I never found it on vinyl, I would have been pissed off, no doubt about it!

hey, don't suppose you have this one...?

RETURN TO SLIMEY VALLEY LP (Mystic Records, 1985) - the follow-up to the first Slimey Valley comp. Once again, not sure where you are located re. the location/theme of this record (Simi Valley), but here's another one I've sought without success for years. I have pretty much all the Mystic comps. on vinyl (from back in the day) except this. I know some of the advertised Mystic comps. never appeared, but I have it on good authority this one did...

  3. Oxnard/Simi Valley Mystic Records. No unfortunately I don't own that own. Mystic Records always pissed me off due to the way they treated bands that recorded for them. I really did not buy too much of their stuff. As for The Crowd, yep not a good album. There are a few good cuts on there but nothing to write home about. Their last two that they did are quite good and worth seeking out.

  4. I must admit this is by far our worst effort. There were some real problems going on in the band when we wrote and recorded this one. O'well everyone gets one flop right? Right now we are recording are last CD Thank You for all the support over the last 30 years

  6. I've had strange luck with The Crowd stuff. I found "A World Apart" still sealed at a shop in D.C. for $12.99 about 6 months ago (as well as some other cool LA/OC finds). Then yesterday I bought this LP still sealed for $7 at a shop in Ventura, CA...and before that found a copy of the Beach Blvd. comp in the $1 bin at another shop in Ventura.

I live in Visalia (south of Fresno), and I happened to find a copy of the Suburban Lawns LP at our local record store, too. I'm pretty happy about my luck with SoCal record finds.

  7. Yep I know where Visalia is, my folks own a house in Readley and most of my relatives live there. Great finds you found. The Crowd are awesome!!!!!

  8. Definitely a great band. I'm 23 and a geek about 70s/80s California stuff. I moved down to Fullerton like 5 years ago for 6 months or so and got lucky enough to see an Avengers/Crowd/Stitches show at the Galaxy. I've loved it ever since.

    Love the blog, man.
