Bad Posture-GDMFSOB

Always loved the cover art to this 12".....Part of the whole Vats scene and regulars at The Tool and Die, Sound Of Music, and On Broadway in San Francisco. Here is their one and only release here for you readers. Ohhh what is The Vats you ask??? Well, I never went there, but from what I know and such, it was a brewery in the southern part of SF near the dog patch. Many bands squatted there like MDC, and many of the other Texas contingent that moved to SF....Not one of my favorite bands but worthy of presenting them to you. I will be working on some C2D, Code Of Honor, Crucifix and others in the near future, so keep your eyes open kids.

  1. Brian Miller (or 4 Way) who sang for Bad Posture, was my high school math teachers son. There were always rumors that Mr. Miller's son was in some punk band and many people said it was the Dead Kennedys. So one day I just asked in class, which successfully derailed the whole period, as he opened up about what his boy actually did. When he said he really snag for a band called Bad Posture, I immediately knew who he was talking about, as I, like every good punk, owned Not So Quiet On The Western Front. Obviously I couldn't say ,"Yeah I love GODDAMNMOTHERFUCKINSONOFABITCH!", but I was thinking it. Years later I got in touch with Brian and Bad Posture actually played a benefit show in SF a couple years back now. Very good guy, teaches now, and strangely so do I. Good to share this fun band. I love punk that you can't tell your parents about!

  2. I offered so much money in the early 80's to get my hands on a copy of their 12'' and never managed it. Great band.

  3. Actually, it's "Jeff" Miller (4-Way). He's been a teacher for the NY dept of Ed for close to 20 years. He was fronting a band in NYC for years called Suicide King. But that's a really funny story, Chris. I'll be sure to pass it along to 4-Way.
Contrary to the previous poster, Bad Posture was not part of the Vats scene, nor was the Vats a squat, another internet rumor.
The CD was put together by Brian Sheklian of Grand Theft Audio (dist by Bomp, I believe) and myself some years back and has some awesome shit on it. Brian put together the cover. The deranged child w/dagger was drawn by Eddie Galvan, the guitar player.
The CD has a demo tape that Klaus Flouride (DKs) recorded on his reel-to-reel in our rehearsal studio, straight to stereo, huddled on the floor between the amps!. It's the best version of GDMFSOB, and has a great sound. There is live stuff, and a LP that the band made with slightly different personnel when they moved to NY.Eddie and Emilio live in Texas, John, the drummer, lives in Madison/ I'm still in SF. Still playing. Thanks for the interest.

  4. The Vats might not have been a squat, I know rent was paid and that many folks came and went, as well as bands too. Always thought they were part of the Vats scene in SF...thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated! It'd be nice to see Bad Posture get back together for a reunion show in the city. I am sure there would be some interest!

  5. JEFF! Yes, Jeff Miller. Why I thought it was Brian I don't know... Guess I look like a dumbass. Oh well. Hey Bruno do you happen to have a good version of the cover drawing? I know Jeff's dad had a shirt he brought in the school to show me one day and since then I have always wanted to recreate a good version, but all I've ever seen are crappy super poor quality ones. Mr. Miller passed away my Senior year and was one of the main reasons I decided to become a teacher myself. He was an awesome guy, and if Jeff is half the teacher his old man was, then he's doing pretty well. Bruno, my email address is...

  6. Chris, I do have some original art somewheres. If I can scan some of Eddie's babies I'll e-mail them to you. They are buried though. I had one of those shirts, too, but I chopped up all my old punk shirts and made a quilt out of them!! No lie.
Jeff (4-way) appears to be an excellent teacher, well respected in his school, an inner city public school in Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn. This 6'-11" much-tattooed English teacher. When I was back there touring with Flipper in '06, he told a funny story. One of his new students came up to him and told him, "Mr. Miller, my mom said to say hello ". (This could be the start of a nasty joke...:). Jeff was the teacher to both the woman and her daughter at the same school years apart! I'm sure he'd be happy to hear about your experience with his dad.
Ken, yeah, BP didn't hang out at the Vats scene, which was a couple of years later, though we knew a lot of the bands there. We hung out at my place a lot, not far from the Vats. After they moved to NY, I started to hang around down there with John Lieb and our new band, the Sluglords. There is an interesting thread on tribe.net on the Vats.
The guys get together to do reunion shows once in a while; a paid vacation to SF...:) I don't generally take part.
Neil, wish I had a copy of the LP for ya. They recorded it back in NY during the CBGBs thrash decade. I have a test pressing.
Bruno DeSmartass, guitar (Bad Posture, Sluglords,....blah, blah...)

  9. Does anyone know how to find 4-way online? I played a lot of shows with him when I was playing bass for Mark Curry, as well as promoted several or i believe all, of the Suicide King shows in Sacramento. Any email would do. Thanks,

  10. Know the proper movement. Don't tighten up your muscles when you're assuming a straight posture. It will only stress the joints and muscles themselves.

  11. It's sad that no one remembers Mike Marer from their New York days. He was an excellent drummer for them.
