Downloading Help Please?

I am having a problem downloading albums here. More specifically, after I download something, unzip it, send it to a file, and open it, some of the song files on my iTunes cannot be altered while others can. For instance, if I want to change the name of the song, or change the genre or even add artwork it will not let me do it, but on other songs from the same album it will. I am a huge artwork nut and this is killing me. Is this a corrupted file? If so, what can I do to fix this? I have run scans on my computer and my computer is clean....or so I think??? I hope this makes sense. I am a computer moron and have to explain things simply here.

  1. sounds like some of those files have corrupted tags. i use the command-line utility mp3check (http://jo.ath.cx/soft/mp3check/) to clean those up (usually running with the --cut-junk-start option is enough). hope this helps.

  3. also, what causes files to corrupt. Is it something my computer is doing or is it from the host that has the file???

  4. sure... i'm assuming you're using windows... download the version of mp3check that will work on your machine (mp3check-0.7.3-win32.zip). unzip it and place the contents in a convenient directory somewhere. then open up a command prompt, and type in: (path to program)\mp3check --cut-junk-start (path to music)\badfile.mp3 (using your own paths & mp3 filename of course). when it's done, try to update the music file in itunes again.

  5. the file probably isn't corrupt, but whoever last tagged it probably used a tagging program that put in tags or content that itunes doesn't recognize and/or cannot handle. mp3check doesn't affect the music, just the metadata (the tags)

  7. Could it be something as simple as some of the songs being 'read only'?

    Easy way to find out:
    - open Windows Explorer,
    - find one of the problem songs, right click on it
    - select 'properties' from the menu that appears
    - under the 'General' tab there is a section called 'Attributes'. Is the 'read-only' box ticked?
    - (if it is) untick it and click 'OK'
    - you should be able to save your tag info now.

    Good luck!
