From The Jam-A First Class Return

Well I was looking around the other day and I came across this little ditty. 7 songs recorded live at The Forum in London, finds From The Jam sounding damn good. From what I understand this is taken from the DVD release that the band is peddling. Cool for me!! Let me explain something here. Before any of you snigger about a Weller-less Jam, I don't want to hear it. Just listen to this and you will be singing at the top of your lungs regardless if the modfather is not present. This release is that good. My love for The Jam started in 1979 when I bought Setting Sons and it has not stopped since. I loved the band so much that when I became a musician I too bought a Rickey and was heavily influenced by Bruce Foxton's playing. Joe Strummer might influenced me towards the music that I still listen to this day 31 years later, but it was The Jam that lit the fuse. Today with 2/3 of The Jam playing with Russell Hastings they sound absolutely on fire. This release put a smile on face instantly. Seek this out, grab a Fred Perry to put on, your Merc Harrington, and some trainers. Open a pint and close your eyes and remember one of the greatest bands in music history.....The Jam. Oh and I heard a new song by From The Jam. Need not worry folks, it is friggen great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Well after seeing them live I can only endorse what you've just said Ken. It was a wee bit expensive I thought for 2/3 originals...well thats what I thought before I went in but after the gig,I thought they were well worth it!

  4. FAO Neil.
Allegedly Butler couldn't be arsed with Foxton anymore.
Although Foxton playing on Wellers new stuff might have something to do with it.

  6. Yep Bucklet was not cool with Foxton playing on Weller's new album. Oh well. I am under the impression that maybe someday you might see The Jam touring sans Buckler. Just a thought and maybe wishful thinking on my part

  7. Buckler was the brains & talent behind the outfit. Ever hear his band TIME U.K.? Some of the best punk rock ever made. Foxton was always a pedestrian hack who followed the gold - hence his tergiversation on playing with Weller again. The "Modfather" is a lame fool & pisshead - an Eric Clapton for the punk age (but minus the politics). Only Buckler is cool.

  8. Speedball you can certainly have your opinions. But really, Rick Butler has not done anything since The Jam. Time UK were horrible and ever since, Rick really has not done nothing in music aside from starting From The Jam to make a little money on the side. More power to him. I personally think Rick is a hell of a drummer and never got his just reward while drumming in The Jam. But to say he was more talented than Weller is laughable. I am not a fan of Weller's solo material at all. Aside from a few cuts on As Is Now, his music is boring and uninspired. As for Foxton. Really? You think that he is that bad of a bassist???? I am a bassist and I have been playing since I was 18 or so (I am 45 now). Bruce is a pretty damn good bassist, has great stage presence, and sings great back ups. Is this Rick Buckler in disquise pissing on this post????

  9. Oh and I would not call Time UK a punk band, and I certainly would not say that they made some of the best punk around. The UK Subs, Clash, Cockney Rejects, Adverts, SLF, Angelic Upsarts, Gen X, Penetration, Buzzcocks, Stranglers, Damned, Pistols, etc made great punk rock.

  11. I much prefered Wellers first solo outing compared to his Style Council material and trundled along to see him in Glasgow on his first tour.
Bit of a let down to be honest. Dr Roberst (Ex Blow Monkeys) was in support and was far better than Weller.
Not that the majority of the crowd would admit that.

  12. Glad I saw them in Seattle last year. They were brilliant. Too bad they all can't seem to get along.

  13. I saw Time UK live a number of times and they were a very good band. Rick was great of corse and Jimmy Edwards made a great front man.
I have a collection of their songs on my ipod and they still sound good.
