TSOL-4 Song Ep

1. Darker My Love
2. White American
3. Perfect Day
4. Politics

Recorded in 2005, this was available for a short time on TSOL's website for free. Dunno if it is still there because I have not taken a look. If it is gone, then here it is for you! Inspired by Neil over at 13th Floor Vendetta. I just wanted to make this gem available to you all. Darker My Love was released on the Suburbia Soundtrack and I think, nowhere else. This is a studio version recorded in 2005. Politics is of course a Damned cover done TSOL style. It kicks ass! Enjoy this folks!

  1. Thank God for "Punk" It is has given an identity to thousands of displaced white suburban males. P.S. Ken aren't you a little old to be arguing with an anonymous person? You are coming off badly. You should concentrate on your blog.

  2. Yes I know. I always have to have the last word. I have already started filtering comments. And yes I AM too old for that. LOL

  3. love, love, love this band.

I was kinda enjoying seeing what the internet troll/wanker/loser would pop up with next, but probably best to not feed the animals. Keep up the good work Ken

  4. Thanks for posting this. I thought I had downloaded Darker My Love a few years ago but couldn't find it on any of my drives; it's a stroke of luck that you posted this just days before I realized that I had probably lost the file.

TSOL seem to have abandoned their website. There's nothing there now except for a blog that hasn't been updated since 2008, a one-paragraph biography, an incomplete discography, and some ads for Viagra. All the media files, photos, etc., are gone.

Seems kinda strange them giving it up after all the crap they had to go through to get the rights to their name back. You'd think a website would at least be useful for posting show dates and similar news.

I didn't know Ron Emory had recently put out a solo album or that Jack Grisham has had his autobiography published until I stumbled across mentions of these on Wikipedia; these are exactly the sorts of things that should be posted on their website.

  5. Your welcome Igor. I cannot believe that there is no studio recording from the 1982'ish TSOL with the song Darker My Love...In regards to TSOL and their website. Their was a shooting onstage during one of their shows a few years back. There was a large lawsuit and TSOL were named in it. They had to spend a lot of money for their defense fund and I think it broke the band. They are back again playing out but they have been somewhat low key

  6. I asked whether they had ever done a studio version of Darker My Love on the forum on their website back in 1999 or 2000.

I got a response from Jack Grisham and/or a friend of the band's who was apparently hanging around the studio with them at the time they were recording Beneath the Shadows. I don't remember exactly what was said but the impression I was left with was that a few tracks had been recorded but that the song was never finished and that the master tape was probably lost.

The friend claimed he had a cassette dating back to those sessions that had a rough mix of the song, but he made a point of saying that he would never share it. I guess he brought it up just to rub it in my face; nice guy!

  7. That is too bad that there are a few more songs out there from that era. Weathered Statues and Beneath The Shadows were amazing releases and to add to those would be soooo fantastic!

  8. Any chance you could put this back up? It seems to have been taken down from mediafire. I just stumbled across this trying to learn more about the song "Darker My Love". I have almost their whole catalog & wondered where that track originated from. But I didn't know about this download.

  9. Pete, I did not realize that it was taken down...Yeah give me until some time this afternoon and I will re up it for you. It is well worth hearing. I do TSOL had it up for free on the website too

  10. Yeah I checked their website but it's pretty sparse, and the download definitely isn't there anymore. As someone above mentioned, it seems the website has been abandoned ever since the shooting and the subsequent legal costs to the band.

Do you know of any other TSOL rarities? A few that I have in my collection are the early version of "Peace Thru Power" (on Thoughts of Yesterday: 1981-1982), "You Don't Have to Die" from their 1980 demo reel (on a Nitro comp called Deep Thoughts, re-released as The Thought Remains the Same), a Disappear b-side called "Sold" that was on the first Plea for Peace/Take Action comp as well as a Nitro comp called Punkzilla, and the bonus tracks from the 1999 Restless Records reissue of Change Today? (including "Suppose They Give a War and No One Comes" from Flipside Vinyl Fanzine Vol. 1).

Basically I'm trying to collect everything track the band ever officially released. Other than this download I know I'm missing the 2 live tracks from the Suburbia soundtrack. I wrote a discography of the band for Wikipedia and I'm working on the articles about their albums: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T.S.O.L._discography

  11. Pete, I think you have it covered. I do have their 1980 demo in whole if you need that. I also have Jack's post TSOL band Cathedral Of Tears somewhere, though they sound nothing like TSOL

    1. I guess I'm also missing "White American", which was the b-side to the "Anticop" single from '01. The hunt for rare tracks never ends...

  12. Anything you have would be great, including the demo and CoT. I got the Rhino Records reissue of Thoughts of Yesterday which includes the first Tender Fury album. Definitely different from TSOL, but interesting to listen to. I suppose next I should track down some Joykiller albums. Thanks for the reply!

  13. White American is on the 4 song demo thing that I have, the one that includes Darker My Love. As for Tender Fury I have 3 of thier recordings. If you want any let me know. As for Joykiller...they were much more like TSOL...very good stuff. I recommend them highly. Give me a bit of time and I will post the 1980 demo and teh 4 track demo to my site

  18. While a document of shame when it comes to Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" the rendition of the track "Darker My Love" ist just incredibly good...
