Another One Gone

Just found out today that Bob Noxious passed away last Christmas. Shows you how out of things I am. Bob was the singer of The Fuck Ups. I posted their wonderful FU 82 Ep a week or so. The top photo, I think is the Tool and Die in the Mission Dist. A dive of a venue in a basement. I remember that you had to take some rickety stairs to get down there. Tough neighborhood too! I just wanted to share this for whoever cares.

  1. Classic band! R.I.P. Bob. Got into a fistfight with Ian Mackaye back in the day, I recall. Respects to the Fuckettes (the birds doing backing vox in the upper pic, if ya don't know, readers).

Question: did the Fuck-Ups record anything other than the e.p. & the track on the Mystic "WE GOT POWER" comp.? I believe not. Coasting on a coupla beers here so my memory may not be 100%. Would love to hear more of their stuff (if their is any). I was just chatting (via e-mail) with Dagger - from a similar SF band Urban Assault (not to be confused with the less offensive Nevada combo that bore the name) - they also only put out one "offensive" e.p. & had one track on the same Mystic comp. That's it! Too bad.

  2. P.S.

Just remembered they had a track on that comp that Mykel Board put out "YOU'LL HATE THIS RECORD", featuring GG amongst other luminaries. Never saw a copy of the album (came with a 3-D piece of fake vomit glued onto the cover). I am guessing the Fuck-Ups song on there was from the e.p.

  3. hey, not to bombard you with comments but, don't suppose you have the "Big Fish Stories" album by THE CROWD??? Very hard to get. LONG out of print. I'm sure it was on Flipside records... fact is I had more than enough opportunities to pick it up in the day but never did (I was probably broke). Classic band. Really enjoying the blog by the way!!

  4. James the comments the merrier! I did not know that The Fuck Ups had a track on Mykel Board's comp. It is a song that is not on their Ep. I did a little research for that one. Apparently Bob was living in Santa Cruz, which is 5 minutes from where I live. It would have been cool to interview the guy because he was quite a character. Yep, he did beat up Ian of Minor Threat at I think, The Tool and Die in the Mission Dist. The girls in the photo singing with Bob are indeed the Fuckettes. They would get up and sing with The Fuck Ups during their earlier gigs. Virginia of The Fuckettes has passed on too from what I understand.

As for The Crowd's Big Fish Stories? I was looking for it the other day and couldn't find it. Yep indeed, it is hard to find. I think Flipside Records put it out? I have put it in my Want List section, so hopefully we will get to hear it!! I have everything by The Crowd except for Big Fish. Keepin the fingers crossed!!

As for Urban Assault, I have the Ep and track from the Mystic Comp. Great band!! Saw them a couple of times at The On Broadway

  5. Hey guys!!!!
I'm a big Fuckups/Bob Noxious fan too. Unfortunately I never had the chance to see them live coz I'm only 15 and I live in Austria...fuck!. I have the ep & the track from the comp. Awesome stuff! I only have one question: Has Bob noxious ever played in other bands after the Fuckups broke up?

    Cheers from Austria!!!!

  6. Btw, there are 2 other tunes by THE FUCK-UPS. If you look at their myspace site there are two unreleased songs. A live version of "Once I had A Brother" and another nameless live song.

    Cheers

  7. Supposedly, the drummer of The Fuck-Ups (Craig) also performed in the late-70's Houston Texas punk band Legionnaire's Disease. I think he has passed on as well.
